What is Health Aging Month?
For the past twenty years, September has been recognized as Healthy Aging Month, to raise awareness about the positive points of growing older – targeting the 70 million Baby Boomers (born between 1946-1964) and more than 65 million members of Generation X (born between 1965 – 1980).
Aging isn’t always valued as a positive experience but learning to reframe aging can put a swing back in your step. For starters, stop being critical of your looks. We all start to change physically and it’s important to be focus on your well-being, keeping a mental note handy to remember not to focus on the outside. Negative social interactions and watching the news can be a downer. Surround yourself with positive people of all ages. Wear comfortable shoes and go on a walk. The movement gives you a boost and being outside generates a positive feeling. Nature is great, soak it up. Smile when you engage with people, it’s contagious and you’ll get a smile back. Call a friend, volunteer, take a class, go to lunch, look up an old friend, and take a trip to the library. Stay curious!
This month focus on making an appointment for a physical, complete health screenings and assess your needs. Freedom Home Care offers specialized services to help keep you healthy.
