What tips can you provide when visiting seniors?

Show curtesy and respect by giving eye contact, speaking clearly and listening to responses. Seniors experienced life – wars, love, marriage, families, occupations, joys and hardships. There may be a valuable life lesson to learn during a visit. Delve into conversations about heritage, learn about traditions and the community where one was raised. Sharing stories around the dinner table is a great way to learn about others and sharing recipes can result in a new meal idea.

Taking time to call and check in with a senior gives an opportunity to build a friendship and show you care. It also prevents loneliness. The positive effect of proactively communicating with others can result in a reciprocal feeling of support. Express appreciation for all the times when a senior impacted your life. Grandparents, teachers, caregivers, parents, and friends are all deserving of a thank you for investing their time and talent during their lifetime.
